Taking Stock: August 2014

Taking Stock: August 2014

It’s been 2 months since my last ‘Taking Stock‘ back in June. At that point I had the post-wedding blues and Dan had just arrived in Boston to complete his master’s program. Now, my man’s back and Fall is just around the corner. In between I explored Salzburg with girlfriends and went on a wild family road trip to Amsterdam, the Moselle Valley and Cinque Terre. Time has flown.

Summer 2014, are you really leaving us so quickly?

Cooking | GERMAN food at home. After a failed attempt at buying ingredients from a Pinteresty Alfredo lasagna, I’ve come to terms with the fact that my beloved American ingredients are just not available. So, I need to change how I cook. Ingredients for German food are ample – if you can’t beat it, join it. Right? Bring on the schnitzel!

Drinking | Beer. Fall is in the air, football is on TV, it’s beertime. Oh, and Dan and I just discovered yet another brewery in Heidelberg, this one in an old monastery.
Reading | Wild by Cheryl Strayed
Making | A wedding photo album. Does anyone have any recommendations for an online album maker?
Wanting | A Go Pro! (definitely copying Alex’s lead HERE)
Looking | For recommendations on restaurants and sights in Catania, Sicily! I’m leaving on Sunday for a week so pass them my way via twitter: @margopaige20
Playing | Soccer with a Heidelberg women’s club team!
Missing | Hokie football – more specifically: tailgating with friends, Blacksburg, the grime and fun of postgame TOTs, reuniting with old classmates, the buzz of campus in the Fall… sighh, I’ll stop now.
Wishing | To repeat Tara and Jen’s visit to Salzburg, Hallstatt, and Zell Am See. Austria was incredibly beautiful, I want to see everything all over again with these ladies.
Enjoying | Commuting to work on bike – I feel like a hipster, burn a few cals, and catch beautiful sunrises on the river. Joy.
Waiting | For the arrival of some of our dearrrrest friends from home for OKTOBERFEST! #HulkaFest
Loving | The go-pro video footage we bought after our paragliding excursion in Annecy last weekend. (Post to come!) In a nutshell, Dan was terrified and I couldn’t stop saying “wowwww”.
Pondering | If I should make the switch to WordPress, Squarespace, or just stick with Blogger. (I frequently ponder this question.)
Watching | Orange is the New Black on Netflix. We’re OBSESSED and have been watching an episode per night for the past week. (Yes, I recognize we’re wayyy behind.)
Hoping | To have a Croatian escape next year, perhaps as a belated honeymoon. I was already sold on going but Kiki’s post on Korcula sealed the deal.
Marveling | At Dan’s dedicated training for his first marathon in Greece this November. He’s going to be running the original route – Marathon to Athens. Yes, I agree, that is the coolest thing ever.
Needing | TOM’s for Fall. Don’t we all?
Wearing | New Calzedonia gray pants – stylish and so daggone comfortable, like yoga pants. #gamechanger
Gorging | On chocolate. What’s gotten into me? I’m going through kinder bars like a boss.
Craving | Greek food! Especially after reading this post from Jamie.
Admiring | The Swiss capital, Bern. Dan and I stopped in for a visit last weekend and I was floored by the gorgeous UNESCO old city center. Too bad a basic nutella crepe runs for 9 francs ($9), yesh.
Bookmarking | Sights in Ireland! Thanks to RyanAir Dan and I scored uber-cheap flights (60E roundtrip pp) to Kerry for a long weekend in October. Have any recommendations for what we should see/do/eat?
Giggling | At THIS footage of an excited lab’s epic run to the sea!
Instagramming |  A bunch lately! Here are my favorite shots from the past few weeks: [follow along for more photos and daily updates here]

What about you? What’s shaking on your end?
