Your Parisian Daydream Just Got $498 Closer

Paris with XL Airways - The Overseas Escape-15

As you swirl sugar into your cafe au lait, you can’t help but smile at the reality of the situation. A quiet cobbled street, the smell of steaming baguettes, a couple closely chatting on woven bistro chairs not far away –

Paris, the city of light and dreamers, is yours!

You’ve planned your day to include a handful of sights, but with emphasis on simply practicing your “flaneur” (a French term for strolling aimlessly). The focus for this trip isn’t to be a tourist, but a traveler… and perhaps with your chic black attire, one that could be mistaken as a local. After a zippy XL Airways flight the day prior, you beat jet lag with a 1-2-punch: one hot nutella crepe and a cozy night’s rest at an Airbnb in the 6th (St. Germain).

This morning you rose with a wave of childish enthusiasm, bounding to street level not long after rising, only to find it still very much asleep. Spotting a cozy cafe across the square, you had ducked in to better embrace the situation.

After slowly sipping down the coffee and clover-leafing the city blocks around the cafe, you move south to Jardin du Luxembourg. Established back in 1612, the flowerbeds are boisterous against the morning light. You find a seat and watch the sails of tiny boats bob across the basin.

The day unravels to include a gluttonous stop at a boulangerie (bakery) – the smell of fresh baguettes wafting into the street had been nothing short of irresistible. You had made a plea bargain with your taste buds and consumed almost half… quite possibly blowing your Parisian facade. On the steps of Montmartre more time passes as you watch street performers, worthy of nothing short of their own Vegas stage, dance and parade along the steps. Even the locals applaud as a juggler dangles himself from a curly street lamp with a soccer ball magically balanced on his forehead.

Eventually your artistic interests take charge with the acknowledgment that amongst the performers, bakers, and crepe-makers lie works by some of world’s most talented artists. The afternoon is spent engrossed in Monet’s dreamy impressionist visions at Musee Orsay and you can’t help but debate about which is your favorite.

By dusk you’ve found a quiet table, good glass of Bordeaux Merlot and a heaping pile of mussels with frites (fries). A toast to Paris, the city that enchants us all!

How obvious is it that I’m absolutely in love with Paris? It’s true, if given the chance, Dan and I would LEAP at the opportunity to call Paris home. Believe me, we’ve daydreamed about it many, many times.

Welp, I’ve got good news to my fellow US-anchored buddies, Paris just got MUCH closer then it’s ever been before! XL Airways is opening up nonstop flights from New York to Paris for wallet-friendly rates as low as $498 roundtrip (!). If you’re a left-coaster you’ve got plenty of options too with flights from SFO and LAX starting June 1 for as little as $831. Très bien – right?!

Unlike the other airlines, XL Airways includes luggage and meals in the ticket so you can put your travel dollars in the place that matters most: Pierre Hermes macaroons. (And please, oh please, send me one when you go!)
