Washington DC for the Holidays // Laura’s Condo Tour
You know those homes you walk in and immediately you wish you lived there? My friend Laura’s Washington DC 3-bedroom condo makes me feel this way.
Her style is totally her own – all of the pieces she’s collected diligently, the renovations (before pics in this post too!) she’s done are beautiful and well-throughout, and of course her holiday styling is classic Christmas and charming. While she finds inspiration at Pottery Barn, she’s yet to buy a single thing there, instead scooping up pieces at yard sales, thrift shops and estates sales. “I love good sturdy pieces that are well made that you can tell they have some life in them and have a good story.” With that philosophy, she’s refinished most of the larger wooden furniture pieces herself.
Before getting started though, Laura, her roomie Ashley, and I poured ourselves Laura’s fav holiday beverage: cava (or champs) with cranberries and rosemary. Zesty, festive and the perfect ‘afternoon with the gals’ libation.
Entry & Living Room:
While the bar cart and hutch are antiques, the rug is from Rue La La. I adore her DC-centric gallery wall and fresh boxwood wreath. Touches like potting her poinsettia in a glass vase and adding sprigs of holly below the tv make the space festive and classy.
BEFORE: Previously the living room was mossy green and closed off from the kitchen and entry. Laura (photo from her tour 5 years ago!) moved the walls back and opened up the space tremendously. The girl had vision!
Open, bright and white, her kitchen is the one of my dreams! During her reno she put in white quartz counters, added a marble backsplash and updated to white cupboards. I LOVE the fresh look!
BEFORE: Previously black granite and closed off from the living area, when Laura did her kitchen reno she opened up the wall, adding a bar and replaced the counters, backsplash and cupboards.
Laura shared her budget-friendly gallery wall secret – the images of the cities below are from a Rifle Paper Company city calendar. She cut them out and framed them to make an adorable art collection.
BEFORE: Check out Laura’s nightstand before she sanded and repainted it.
Guest Bedroom 1:
White, extra soft sheets and a cushy bed. The perfect spot for guests like me to lay their head! (..and believe me, I have!) ;D
Guest Bedroom 2:
Laura’s roomie, Ashley, shares her love for all things DC and Charleston, SC. Tokens from both cities can be spotted throughout the condo. The photos above Ashley’s bed are window boxes in Charleston.
A more recent update, I’m nuts about the marble honeycomb floor and subway wall tiling in her bathroom. Laura told me both are from the Hampton Cararra collection at The Tile Shop. So beautiful!
Many, many thanks to Laura and Ashley for allowing me to come over and invade with my camera. I adore both of them and if I could move in today with Stuart and Dan, I absolutely would!
Of course, nothing beats a afternoon drinks with great girlfriends too! If you’re looking for something festive to sip on give Laura’s Christmas Cava a sip. 😉
Are you a fan of home tours like me? What’d you think of Laura’s place?!
