My Beloved Beilstein (Moselle Valley)
To anyone considering going to Germany anytime soon, you need to see this.
If there ever was a storybook town in Germany, Beilstein is it.
Not far from Cochem, in the Moselle Valley, lies this cute-as-a-button village. The size of a nickel, word on the street is that there isn’t even an ATM to be found. That’s fine though. Somehow it’s just enough off the beaten path it doesn’t feel overrun with tourists (yet!), but full of life, charm and a traditional German cross-timbered architecture. A German dollhouse of sorts.
Apart from wandering the streets, drinking local wine and having a meal, I can’t claim that this is bubbling with options. That’s perfectly fine though and likely the reason that everyone appeared to be so relaxed.
My parents were being cutesy while we waited for lunch, perhaps it was the generous pours of the wine or just them being them? Funny, that moment when you realize that your parents are adults just like you.
Our visit lasted all of 2 hours, enough to explore the town and chow down lunch. That’s all you need. Or, if you’re looking to relax, cozy up at one of the adorable pensions in town like Rick Steves’ did. Despite it’s petite size, if you’re in Moselle Valley, make time for my beloved Beilstein, won’t you please?
